My One Page Business Plan.
I recently finished reading Peter Levitan's new book "How To Build A Kick-Ass Advertising Agency". I enjoyed the book, and highly recommend it; only a little of it was new to me because I have seen or heard most things in the almost 15 years I have been running my agency, but one thing I did take to heart was his chapter on having a one-page business plan.
His definition of "business plan" is what I call a company bible. The Mission and Vision etc., of the company. I usually put this stuff in the brand book, but whatever you call it, I had yet to put it on paper formally. Sure, I had it in my head, but committing it to paper somehow made it more real.
Here is what was in my head.
The differentiator of our company is our team, our backgrounds, experience, courage, execution, the fact that we are professionally funny, and our brains/creativity to make magic on medium and small budgets. We are not for everyone, so we make it clear that we work with brave brands. We are probably not for you if you are looking for boring or mediocre and we don't want to waste either of our time.
These are key points that are highlighted in our document as it is important to be as clear as possible; not always easy in a one-page document, but the goal is to cram it all in there.
This doc is now on the wall for everyone to see, and one day when they make a movie about us similar to "Air" this poster will be all over Etsy!
Do you have a doc or a formal mission/vision statement for your company? if so what's the mission?
