Our Advertising Department is MAD

The Idea Integration Co Advertising and Creative Solutions team is led by Bill Morrison (Final Editor-In-Chief of Mad Magazine and Decades-Long Team Member of The Simpsons)

Creativity comes from boredom, but shouldn’t ever be boring.

The creative team from MAD Magazine and a few brilliant minds from The Simpsons, led by Bill Morrison (final editor-in-chief of MAD, right-hand man to Matt Groening, director of Bongo Comics, and artist for The Simpsons) make up the backbone of the creative solutions and advertising department at The Idea Integration Co. Dick DeBartolo, Tom Richmond, Ian Boothby, Teresa Burns Parkhurst, and others are here with the mission to shake up the advertising world and create memorable work for deserving brands.

What People Are Saying About our MAD Team

“Mad Magazine’s team of writers and artists can boast of a long history of deeply understanding and mercilessly parodying advertising. In the process of doing so [they became] more relevant, biting and truthful; call this hallmark ‘MAD advertising,’ if you will.”

“The merger of Mad’s creatives with the mad creativity of Saul Colt is no vanity project; it’s the opportunity for some truly groundbreaking, attention-generating marketing work for brands who are brave enough to dare to do something new. These are certainly not your ‘Usual Gang of Idiots’,” Mr. Nulman added.”

— Andy Nulman, Founder of the Just for Laughs Festival

“What is your brand differentiator? Don’t have one? Not sure? Saul Colt is your differentiator. He can help your brand find something uniquely you. I believe that great brands hit emotions hard; with humor, with insight, with joy, and with something memorable. [If you’re] willing to try something fun, different, edgy, something memorable [then you’d] better call Saul and his team. You’d be MAD to miss this opportunity.”

— Mitch Joel, founder of Six Pixels of Separation and CTRL ALT Delete

FAQs

If we work together will our Ads be in Mad style?

MAD magazine had a very specific style that is recognizable around the world. As cool as that is it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to put out a series of ads that look exactly the same no matter who the client happens to be. The team is made up of professional illustrators, cartoonists, graphic designers, copywriters, and animators who work in any style to match your brand. What makes us unique is that the tone or the insight of the message will be in the MAD sensibility, full of humor and satire.

Why should I work with this team?

We will let our friend Andy Nulman, Founder of the Just for Laughs Festival answer this for us - “Mad Magazine’s team of writers and artists can boast of a long history of deeply understanding and mercilessly parodying advertising. In the process of doing so [they became] more relevant, biting, and truthful; call this hallmark “MADvertising” if you will. This is no vanity project; it’s the opportunity for some truly groundbreaking, attention-generating creative work for brands who are brave enough to dare to do something new. These are certainly not your Usual Gang of Idiots”

And since we are sharing quotes, David Ogilvy famously saidTell the truth but make the truth fascinating. You know you can’t bore people into buying your product, you can only interest them into buying it”

When it comes to “telling the truth” there is no better way to do so than through satire and there is no better team for that form than this one.

How does this change The Idea Integration Co?

In a way, it is what we have been working towards for years because Bill Gaines (founder of MAD) has been an inspiration since day one and our work has always had the goal of pushing people out of their comfort zones safely. That aside, Saul Colt will be overseeing the entire operation but Bill Morrison leads the creative team and Saul works directly with customers on the marketing side of the business. Also, we can now offer more services like full animation.

Can this team do more than just ads?

Of course. Our creative team is focused on creative solutions to any problem. That includes making them available for brainstorm sessions, packaging design, video concepts, or anything you have that can use a little creativity to make better.

My company is conservative. Can we still work together?

Yes. The mission of The Idea Integration Co is to take two baby steps past your comfort zone, but that line is different for every brand and our skill is match your brand and comfort instead of asking you to match ours. That said, anything we create will be cooler than anything your company has seen before.

Why is humor important in advertising?

Data shows that even in uncertain times, 75% of a brand’s audience is asking for humor in their advertising. There isn’t a group of people more suited to creatively guide brands to using humor and satire in advertising and meet the desire of consumers.

An October 2021 Hubspot survey revealed that 35% of audiences remember ads that are funny, vs. 8% who remember celebrity-driven ads. Additionally, only 1% of consumers said that big budgets or highly-produced ads stayed with them.

It is science.

Will you relaunch the magazine one day?

We can’t really because we don’t own Mad Magazine (DC Comics does). We are trying to keep the mad sensibility alive and want to bring new life into the advertising space because it has gotten boring and we want to fix it.
